well. today was godawful, and I ended up crying twice out of sheer frustration - once at work, after babylon came in and was bugfuck insane at me over the schedule (he wanted me to schedule people from 2 AM to 10 AM and didn’t forsee any possible issues with this at all), and once at home, when I dropped my plate and lost half my dinner halfway to the microwave.

but!

I got a call back from one of the doctor’s offices I’d left messages with, and I have a psychiatrist appointment for the 17th! which is not ideally asap, to be sure, but it’s a lot sooner than I was expecting, tbh.

So I’m going to focus on making it to that. I can do this. my shifts are changing to 5 AM - 1 PM, so I shouldn’t cross paths with babylon much at all (although unfortunately when I do, it’ll be at the end of my shift and my metaphorical rope).

and! I have confirmation from not just one, but TWO coworkers (plus kate, an outside observer but with a biased view of events) that babylon is indeed bugfuck insane and unreasonable and a grade-a asshole who needs remedial lessons in basic interpersonal relations.

I also have reassurance that everybody fucking knows that the terrible fucking schedules and shit that’s getting handed down to them has nothing to do with me and that I’m doing my best to ameliorate shit.

also that none of us get paid enough but especially not me.

I’m getting the feeling I am not the only one an inch away from quitting just like that.

tagged by both judearaya and likearumchocolatesouffle - does that mean I should list ten things, technically? :P

1) I have a reading speed of 900 wpm with an 80% comprehension rate, according to the online test I took years ago. which is cool and all, but not all that marketable, really.

2) my parents had to get a kid-leash for me when I was little, despite having always thought they were terrible and inhumane - I thought it was the best game ever to run away and hide, apparently, and (at the time) had no fear of strangers. (oddly, as I got older, I got way clingier and more anxious around strangers and heights and well everything)

3) I read One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich when I was eight or so for no other reason than when I asked my mom what she was reading, she said it was boring/too hard for me.

I don’t remember any of it now, but apparently my mom quizzed me and I actually had a fairly good grasp on what happened, if maybe not like, the underlying themes and shit.

4) when I was in third grade, my best friend started teaching me hebrew on the bus (and I mean, legit teaching; she wrote me a glossary and worksheets and gave me homework and everything)

(god we were fucking nerds)

Unfortunately, I remember diddlysquat at this point.

5) I have a crazy mad desire to go to build-a-bear and disappointment that I’ve never done so, but also am too terrified of the emotional commitment it would mean to actually go an do it - what if I didn’t love it properly once I’d made it? how do you choose a stuffed animal to be yours, let alone MAKE one?? ABORT ABORT ABORT

sorry, guys, you already have heard most of my interesting stories, I think.

I tag arrowsforpens, persephonesidekick, poeticprinciple, daltoneering, frumiousme, and anyone else who hasn’t been tagged yet, if you’re up for it <3

Every so often, someone says, with perplexity, “I seem to be getting more autistic. I don’t know why, and I know that doesn’t sound possible, but it seems to be happening.”

Those of us who experience this are often surprised, because of the general perceptions that are out there about autism. It is viewed either as something stable, or, as in the writings of Liane Holliday Willey, Temple Grandin, and other authors, as something that fades away with age.

The fact that some autistic people lose abilities with age is well-documented, but it is not always discussed in clear ways.
