well, I did kind of a bratty thing and went and got my stuff yesterday at 1
AM following work. I didn’t actually intend to wake my mom up, but I can’t
say part of me wasn’t almost hoping for it.
It might have not been the best thing to do and it certainly upset and
angered her, but I guess she sat down and had a talk with my dad this
morning about it and about my talk with my dad yesterday because I got this
long email this afternoon about the context of her request, explaining her
need for urgency and why she’d used the trash day as a stick, and
acknowledging that it hadn’t been the best way to go about things and that
it had hurt me.
(that’s. kind of big, for my mom. it wasn’t an apology, but it’s about as
close to one as I’ve ever really heard my mom get.)
(her *actual* apologies tend to not be all that apologetic and are actually
kind of infuriating because they’re more apologizing for how *I* reacted to
something than for the actual something itself.)
I wrote back and apologized for waking her up last night and thanking her
for explaining and explaining what exactly had made me so upset (and I
threw in a bit at the end about how it’s hard to talk to her about things
she does that hurt or anger me because she gets so angry at being called
out which hopefully will not make things worse) and I’m kind of hopeful
this will actually be good for us?
she also gave a bunch of suggestions for how best to deal with me getting
the rest of my stuff as they continue to clear out the attic and asked me
for my opinions and/or other ideas on the matter, which was seriously cool
of her.
I mean, my dad clearly helped her write the email (they even said that at
the bottom, but I might have been able to tell anyway - diplomacy is not my
mom’s strong suit, and it’s my dad’s actual job.) but she was willing to
write and send such an email and that means a lot.
I’m just. really kind of happy right now.
Also my room is almost completely clean and organized. I have one and a
half boxes of stuff left to go through and either find a place for or get
rid of, but my floor is completely clear and I’ve sorted through a lot of
things and I am really happy about that as well. Once I vacuum it’ll be
almost like new!
