When I hang out in my fandom, I find my readers gushing about my stories among themselves rather than to their author. First I figure they must be shy, but then cold logic kicks in. Clearly this is a case of “love the fic, hate the author”. Do I sound rude when I reply to reviews? Is it my author’s notes? Do I just naturally repel people? PANIC

you know, in my case it isn’t even so much anxiety, exactly - it’s that leaving a review takes so much more effort than reblogging with a comment or gushing about it on tumblr. leaving a comment for the author starts a conversation, and that often seems like more emotional effort than I want to put into something I’m doing for fun. (I even have trouble responding to comments on my own works if they’re not from people I regularly talk to, even though I love love love getting them.)
it’s one of the reasons I love the ao3 kudos and tumblr like functions so so much - they allow me to show my appreciation of people’s fics in a way that probably wouldn’t happen otherwise. (I mean, I bookmark the shit out of things on pinboard, but unless you’re actually ~looking~ to see if your fic’s been pinned on pinboard, that’s not something you’re necessarily going to notice.)

Baby Elephants!

probably my favorite part of elephants is the fact that you’re literally seeing one of few species that not only is probably on par with human sentience/intelligence, but also ages, matures and has proven itself to have a fairly similar growing up process as humans.
So like, we see this largeish gamboling elephant baby, but you’re basically looking at a giant toddler.
