Sitting on top of tables increases happiness by 5000%. I wonder if anyone actually knows why.

If anyone sees that “been in a coma for 20 years" picture thing and is thinking about reblogging it because it fucks with your head, please don’t

the only reason i’m linking it is so that people know what i’m talking about. some of us have a really hard time with staying in reality and some of us think none of this world is real and some of us have paranoia and anxiety related to these things

so this image might be fun (or whatever) for some of you but i’m having a really hard time right now with this and it’s very triggering. I would recommend anyone with DID or BPD or anything involving general anxiety about reality NOT look at this as it might make you panic. so if you absolutely have to reblog it please tag it with content warnings okay thank you

Also, to anyone who has seen this already and is panicking because of it, you are not in a coma and are very real. I love you and you are safe and if anyone needs to talk to me or anything I here okay, okay that’s it

autisticexchange:

Fandom and character nominations for The Autistic Exchange are now open! To make nominations, click here.

Nominations will close 17 May at 11:59 PM, Eastern Standard Time. Sign-ups for the exchange will then open at 12:00 AM (EST) on May 20th.

What is the Autistic Exchange?

The Autistic Exchange is a fanfiction gift exchange by autistic people, for autistic people. Our aim is to encourage autistic people to write stories featuring their favourite canonically autistic or headcanoned autistic characters, and to receive a story featuring a desired autistic character in return!

We’d like to see more stories featuring autistic people on AO3. We’d also like to encourage more diverse representations of autism and autistic people. We’d love to see autistic people of colour, autistic people with additional disabilities, autistic women, queer autistic people, autistic people outside the gender binary, and more!

How do nominations work?

You will need an AO3 account to nominate and participate in The Autistic Exchange. If you do not have an account, you will need to request an invitation from AO3 here. Additionally, the Autistic Exchange currently has 10 invitations it can give to participants who do not have an AO3 account.

You may nominate up to four fandoms, and five characters per fandom. If you have less than four fandoms, or less than five characters for a fandom you are nominating, that’s ok! Just leave those extra places blank. :)

When nominating characters, please keep in mind the following:

You should be planning to request or offer to write at least one character from each fandom you nominate as autistic when you sign-up. However, nominating more than one autistic character is highly encouraged! These characters may be canonically autistic, you may headcanon them as autistic, or you may simply be interested in reading or writing an interpretation of the character as autistic. :)

You may nominate characters who you perceive as allistic, if you would like to request or offer them interacting with your autistic character(s). During sign ups, you may make note in your “Dear Author” letter that you are interested in how this/these allistic character(s) interact with your autistic character(s). However, be aware that your author may write any, or even all, of the characters in your request as autistic. The more autistic characters, the merrier! That is the point of this exchange, after all! :)

At this time, we are not accepting RPF nominations. Virtually all other fandoms, big or small, and characters are open to nominations, however.

Ready to make some nominations? Awesome! Nominate here! Nominations are now open!

Want to see the challenge profile, including rules and FAQ? Ok, here’s a link just for you!

Got some questions or suggestions? No problem! Throw an ask our way.

8 May-17 May: Nominations
20 May-31 May: Sign-ups open!
2-5 June: Assignments go out

This amazing campaign for Diversity in YA/MG is starting tomorrow, but for the past few days twitter has been exploding with people talking about it. If you haven’t been checking it out, here’s the hashtag that they are using: #WeNeedDiverseBooks

And here is a list of…

A couple more I thought of besides the ones I mentioned previously:

WITCH EYES & sequels by Scott Tracey— Have you ever considered Romeo and Juliet but between magical families and both of them are dudes? Okay now do.

THE PRIVILEGE OF THE SWORD by Ellen Kushner—What is a young lady to do when forced to learn the sword by one’s rich and eccentric bisexual uncle… from said uncle’s blind lover man? Avenge another young lady’s honour, of course.

I CAN’T BE STOPPED!

To be white, or straight, or male, or middle class is to be simultaneously ubiquitious and invisible. You’re everywhere you look, you’re the standard against which everyone else is measured. You’re like water, like air. People will tell you they went to see a “woman doctor” or they will say they went to see “the doctor.” People will tell you they have a “gay colleague” or they’ll tell you about a colleague. A white person will be happy to tell you about a “Black friend,” but when that same person simply mentions a “friend,” everyone will assume the person is white. Any college course that doesn’t have the word “woman” or “gay” or “minority” in its title is a course about men, heterosexuals, and white people. But we call those courses “literature,” “history” or “political science.”

This invisibility is political.

Hey I thought of an awesome movie premise. It’s like a cross between a superhero movie and Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde.

By day she’s a computer technician. By night she’s a rock monster with superhuman strength. She’s always fabulous.

The title is The IT Girl & Miss Thing.

A lack of feelings or emotions

An inability to understand that other people have minds and feelings

Not caring about other people’s feelings

Not caring about other people

Inability to love

Difficulty reading facial expressions

A fundamental part of being human

An inability to be nice to people

Something all autistic people have

Something all autistic people do not have

It appears that autistic people have much more variable levels of affective empathy (cognitive empathy is different and to do with reading facial expressions or body language and is both totally distinct from affective emotion and not what is commonly thought of as empathy), so many of us have very high levels of empathy, and many of us have very low levels of empathy. Some of us also have average levels of empathy. Lacking empathy is not the same as lacking emotions.

Oh my god, I’m so glad they posted this because I was worried I’d have to actually ask someone and I didn’t want to offend people but I knew my vague idea of what ‘empathy’ means must be wrong because autistic folks without empathy aren’t socio/psychopaths, obvs, but that was my only idea of what a lack of empathy *is* because I always considered compassion a part of empathy so this is so fucking helpful and useful and yeah.

Sometimes, the adolescent elephant will throw itself upon the ground as a sign of extreme emotional distress, commonly known as a “tantrum.”

This is actually really funny.
