The Miracle Modus is a thing which emits soothing patterns of light and sound. It’s implemented as an app on iOS and Android, although distribution isn’t entirely settled. While the Modus is intended to be restful for most people, particular attention has been given to the way in which many autistic people respond to the application.

on the one hand, following andromedalogic has been v. reassuring because hey look i’m not the only one who feels so terrible about terrible things happening tht i can’t actually do anything to help because it all feels way too small and meaningless and if i can’t actually fix it than what’s the point

but on the other hand

hey look other people also feel like breaking down and crying over signal boost posts

wow isn’t both the world and brain chemistry amazing

If it makes you feel any better, I donated to the bail fund and you can pretend you owe me $25 because you did too? (you don’t actually have to owe me anything)

see, and i could totally afford to do that! but also i can’t because if i donated to this fund then i would have to donate to all of the other funds because how can i prioritize one terrible need over another???

The air in the hotel ballroom-turned-Leather-club was heavy with anticipation and want. The room was packed, and all around him men were pressed close together; scene negotiators and hook up hopefuls alike adding their voices to the constant buzz of sound humming just below the throb of music. Kurt could feel the undercurrent of lust and sex in the set of his teeth, and he shivered as it washed up and down his spine in tingling waves.

From his place at the bar he watched in the low light as Elliott danced, the other man’s head thrown back as his current dance partner’s hands trailed up and down his bare arms and chest while they moved together.

Kurt grinned, taking a sip of the second whiskey he’d been nursing since arriving at the party nearly an hour earlier.

Beside him an Old Guard Sir was observing the crowd as well, and Kurt couldn’t help standing a little straighter whenever Sir’s eyes flickered down to the black and white checkered and grey handkerchiefs folded in neat squares in the left back pocket of his black pants.

He knew that it shocked some of the men that he met at parties like these that he flagged as a safe-sex/bondage top - or that he flagged as a top at all - but the older man beside him seemed more impressed than surprised.

fictionwritingtips:

I compiled most of the writing websites I’ve mentioned on my blog into one post. I find a lot of these sites useful, so hopefully they can help you out!

Imagination Prompt Generator: This give you a one-sentence writing prompt that will help you come up with ideas. I think it also allows you to set a ten minute timer for each prompt.

Wridea: I really like this site because you can write down simple ideas that you can organize later and put into a bigger project. You can share these ideas or the site will help you randomly match ideas. It’s great for brainstorming and building a fully formed outline.

List of Unusual Words — Here’s a site you can browse through that gives you a list of unusual words for every letting in the alphabet. If you’re looking to switch up your vocab, or looking to develop a way a character speaks, this is a good reference.

Picometer — Here’s a writing progress meter that can be embedded on your site or blog. There’s also the Writertopia meter that shows word count/current mood.

Cut Up Machine: This website takes whatever words you typed or pasted into the box and rearranges your sentences. It’s not practical for writing a novel, but it might help with poetry OR coming up with ideas. Experiment with it and see what you can come up with.

Orion’s Arm: This is a great website to use if you want to research worldbuilding or if you have science questions. There are tons of resources you can use.

Word Frequency Counter: If you’re finding that you’re using the same words over and over again, this website should help. You’ll be able to count the frequency usage of each word in your text. This should help you switch up the words you’re using and understand where the problem might be.

Phrase Frequency Counter: This is same site explained above, but it counts the phrases you’re using.

My Writing Nook: This allows you to write or jot down ideas wherever you are. You don’t need to have your laptop in order to access it, so it might help you during this time. You can write as long as you have your phone.

Writer: The Internet Typewriter - This site lets you write, save, share, and/or convert your writing online. I tried it out and it’s pretty cool. It saves for you and is a great way to brainstorm or plan out some ideas.

The Forge - The Forge is a fantasy, creature, spell, and location name generator. It’s awesome.

One Word: This site gives you one word to write about for 60 seconds. This should help you get started with your own writing and will work as a writing prompt to get you warmed up. It’s a great way to get yourself motivated.

Confusing Words:  On this site you can search through confusing words that often stump many writers. It’s not a huge reference, but it should help you with some writing/grammar issues.

Cliché Finder: This site allows you to enter parts of your writing and it will search for clichés. If you find that you’re using the same phrases over and over again, this will help a lot. I haven’t messed around with it too much, but it looks useful.

Hand Written Fonts: If you’re looking for great hand written fonts, this is a great reference. All of them are pretty awesome.

Tip of My Tongue — you know when you’re trying to think of a specific word, but you just can’t remember what it is? This site will help you narrow down your thoughts and find that word you’ve been looking for. It can be extremely frustrating when you have to stop writing because you get a stuck on a word, so this should help cut that down.

…ahahahahahaha.

one of the reasons i keep not reblogging ferguson stuff is because i don’t know what to tag it with. like. i know i should tag it with something for blacklists if people need it, but it goes against the grain to just tag it as ferguson or something like that your mouth and your mind just stumbles over it and  w o w  how is this a thing for me sometimes i suck at being a human being

i could tag it situation: ferguson because that has a good sound-feel but also that seems like it might come off as making light of the situation??? and that would be a jerk thing to do.

i might do that anyway and just hope people that follow me will understand that isn’t my intent at all.

constitutiveoutsider:

For those of us who are not in Ferguson right now, it is easy to feel completely helpless about the situation. But there are things all of us can do, no matter what resources we have to spare.

If you have no time, money, or engery please still:

Sign this petition to demand a federal law requiring all law enforcement to wear a camera on duty. This petition is guaranteed to have some sort of response from the government, because it is through whitehouse.gov.

If you have money consider donating to:

The Mike Brown memorial fund.

The bail and legal fund for those arrested during protests in Ferguson.

Feeding students in Ferguson.

If you have the resources and access read. Educate yourself about the history of blackness, incarceration, state violence, and unjust laws in the US. Read Michelle Alexandra, Angela Davis, Malcom X, and MLK Jr. Don’t rely on pretty, decontextualized, and depoliticized quotes. Read everything critically, especially if you are not black, to understand the historical context that makes what is happening in Ferguson, and how it is being presented in the media, possible. Because if you are surprised, you have not been paying attention.

If you have the time and emotional energy share and save the videos, tweets, and other social media evidence of that is happening. Do not let this fade from public interest. Talk about it until everyone is sick of it, then talk about it more. Fatigue can turn into apathy, or it can turn into action. Also, don’t privilege media coverage and narratives. There are people on the ground telling their own stories. Listen to them.

Seriously, what the police are doing is not “bad”, it’s illegal.

There is a reason why people are raging mad at this situation, and it’s because it’s a blatant violation of basic human rights.

If you don’t understand that, then you are part of the problem.

I’m not trying to give you a hard time, I’m genuinely curious: Can you explain what’s wrong with tagging it “ferguson”? Is it because it sounds generic and could get mixed up with other places and people called Ferguson?

This is going to sound super-weird, because it totally is, but I sort of mentally divide my tumblr tags into one of two categories:

1) editorial commentary and asides - not commonly used as they’re me talking in the tags. this generally includes warnings even though those are somewhat canonical because I often include extra info about the warning

2) categorical tags that get used again and again

The categorical tags really bother me if they don’t “sound” right / feel right in my mouth. Like, they have to kind of roll off the tongue, or it’s trips me up every time I read them, like a mental stumbling block. It’s why I’m so picky about my tags.

I guess also in addition to that it sort of seems weird and wrong to be tagging it “ferguson” when it’s really about so much more than that - politics and anti-blackness and human rights. like. IDK. I also don’t like it when people tag posts things like “kittens” or “poetry” even though I know it’s for search purposes and even though I actually actively use generic tags like that to find content.

It just. feels weird.

emailing my doctor and trying to figure out what to say:

well, I no longer have terrible awful crashes that lead to weeping fits and existentialism and I’ve gotten some stuff done almost every day since I started the new meds, so they’re definitely helping

but also I have mostly not gotten stuff done and had a lot of headaches and taken a lot of naps, so I’m not sure it’s helping ~enough~

also I am super sensitive to shit and extra cranky but that might just be due to the headaches and being tired most of the time.

I mean I guess I could send that but it’s kind of. unprofessional? like I know it’s not a work email, but it is like, an ‘adult’ email so it should probably be more formal and stuff.

I really feel like I should be like, getting on a bus or something and going to join the protestors in Ferguson and I don’t know whether or not that’s a reasonable urge but I do know that it isn’t really all that feasible what with you know having a job and very little money and also being afraid of huge loud crowds and people yelling and being violent

but then I wonder if I shouldn’t not care about all that and just drop everything because surely if I were a truly ~good~ person I wouldn’t care about personal repercussions at a time like this.

and then I try to tell myself that’s not a reasonable way of thinking about it but then I feel callous and like I’m trying to rationalize myself out of guilt and justify my lack of action.

Don’t just show up in Ferguson. The urge to support them in person is widespread, but unless you have a definite plan that involves adding to their capacity to deal with the situation, you’re just one more person for the organizers on the ground to deal with.

Keep listening to what they need and contribute what you can from home.
