IMPORTANT FACTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
JUST BECAUSE UR FRIEND’S PARENTS SEEM NICE WHEN YOU MEET THEM DOES NOT MEAN THEY ARE NICE PEOPLE B/C YOU DO NOT SEE WHAT HAPPENS BEHIND CLOSED DOORS!!!!!!!!!
SO IF FRIEND TELLS…
No, that makes a lot of sense. I especially want to thank you for your suggestions about to handle such situations in future.
I do want to clarify that I’m not so much talking about saying something like “they love you; I’m sure they didn’t mean it” as I am of making reassuring comtextual reminders about what else could be affecting the person’s behavior, while still acknowledging how not okay it was and validating (this seems a bad word to use but I cant think of the right one) your right to be hurt by it.
and what I’m really talking about here, I suppose, is the more off-the-cuff out-of-nature type behavior (like when our mutual friend snapped at you that one time?) otherwise, I tend to not say very much at all, for fear of offending someone.
but regardless, you’re absolutely right in that there are potemtially much higher stakes at play and that I need to be careful. I’m certainly going to try.
