shamelesslymkp:
well, self, here is a list of things to keep in mind as you look! besides that they need to accept your new insurance, which goes without saying.
what are you going to want to talk about? (or. er. not want to talk about but probably should anyway?)
day-to-day management of depression and relapse prevention
guilt spirals
irrational anxieties (e.g., listening to voicemails)
dealing with reflexive/habitual ideation
your not-quite-the-best relationship with your mother
setting boundaries
self-expectations
why men make you nervous
why sex seems weird and offputting
why intimacy seems even weirder and more offputting
dealing with monosexism and biphobia (potentially)
staying able to think properly when angry/upset
internalized kink shaming
internalized fatphobia and how dieting leads to scary disordered eating style thoughts
being neuroatypical (because i totally am whether i’m “actually autistic” or not) and how that affects my life and relationships with others because apparently it does so more than i thought???
preventing and dealing with meltdowns
adulting: how do (do therapists help with that kind of thing? because i kind of feel like i need a life skills class or something sometimes, jfc)
my thing about klaine and by extension glee (altho i am really not sure i want to bring this up even if i clearly ought to because i have this suspicion they will declare the whole thing unhealthy and say i should give it up entirely and DNW.)
not obsessing about my tags and bookmarks to the point of paralysis or tears because ffs this is something i do for fun
not reading the new books in my favorites serieses because it’s overwhelming and seems like so much work
actually, just getting paralyzed in general because things seem too difficult or too intense or like there’s no point
what irrational things are likely to discomfit you?
therapist being a guy
therapist being lots and lots older than me (maybe not tho? but if i do any talk about kink or sex i feel like i’d be more comfortable with someone closer to my age. unless they’re like, actively kink-friendly but idek how to find someone like that.)
having to make appointments and talk to the doc by phone vs email
if they’re super into creepy therapist-school constant eye contact because that’s weird as fuck and i really wish they would all just. stop.
what are some bonus features that would make them more appealing?
close by
easy to find
also can do medication management! (that is a big one)
has a good reputation (i also have no idea how you would find this out)
gets pop culture and geek references (this is really super low priority but it would be useful just for communication purposes and increasing comfort level)
uh.
well.
now that i’ve. uh. written it all out like that,
i can see that arrowsforpens might. uh. have a point.
